Pacific House Museum is on Custom House Plaza, within Monterey State Historic Park. The 1847 adobe building, built as a U.S. Army storage facility, is a museum with interactive displays depicting the history of Monterey during its days as the capital of Spanish and Mexican California. On the second floor, the Monterey Museum of the American Indian features Native American baskets and pottery. Behind the building is an attractive courtyard called the Memory Garden.
