Mount Shasta State Fish Hatchery and Sisson Museum, .5 mi. w. of I-5 exit 738 (Central Mount Shasta) at 1 N. Old Stage Rd., produces 3 to 5 million trout annually to stock the streams and lakes of northern California. The museum has exhibits pertaining to the region's geological and human history, including the history of the railroad, and the unusual lenticular clouds that form over Mount Shasta. There also is a display of Native American basketry. The museum also features many activities for kids. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Hatchery free. Museum $1.
Hours: Hatchery open daily 8 a.m.-dusk. Museum open daily 10-4, Memorial Day-Labor Day; daily 1-4, day after Labor Day-Sept. 30; Fri.-Sun. 1-4, early Apr.-day before Memorial Day and Oct. 1 to mid-Dec. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
