B. Bryan Preserve is in the center of town at 130 Riverside Dr. This 100-acre private reserve is a refuge for hoofed mammals native to Africa, many of them on the endangered species list. Zebras, giraffes and antelopes roam in large, open fields in a near-natural environment, offering an opportunity to view them at close range. An introductory talk precedes the guided tour. Visitors also can feed baby animals housed in a barn. Fog and wind can descend on the area unexpectedly and within minutes; bring a jacket and wear comfortable walking shoes. The terrain may be muddy during winter months. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
Guided tour fee $35; $20 (ages 0-10). Advance reservations are required and must be guaranteed with a credit card; payment by cash is preferred.
Hours: Tours daily at 9:30 and 4, Mar.-Oct.; 9:30 and 3:30, rest of year.
