The Mission Inn Museum, 3696 Main St., reflects California Mission Revival architecture. Buildings and courtyards brim with antique bells, stained glass, statues, paintings and gardens. The first wing was built 1902-03. St. Francis Chapel contains a massive gold-leaf Mexican altar screen, or retablo, and seven Tiffany stained-glass windows. The small museum relates the history of the inn and the city. Food is available within the hotel. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
Donations. Tour $13; free (ages 0-11 with adult). Tour fees may be higher during special events. Reservations are recommended for the tour.
Hours: Daily 9:30-4:30. Guided 75-minute tours are offered daily at 10, 11:30 and 4 (also Mon.-Fri. at 2, Sat.-Sun. at 1:30 and 2:30). Closed Jan. 1, Easter, Mother's Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
