Maidu Museum & Historic Site is at 1970 Johnson Ranch Dr. The museum, designed to resemble a Native American roundhouse, has exhibits, artifacts and displays showcasing Maiduan Indian culture.
A nature trail winds through the site, which was a Nisenan settlement for thousands of years until the mid-1800s. Along the trail visitors can see native plants; sandstone outcroppings carved with petroglyphs; and areas where the rocky ground is filled with mortar holes, which were used to process food. An art gallery features contemporary Native American art.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
