California State Railroad Museum is at 2nd and I sts. The three-level building houses 21 restored locomotives and train cars. More than 40 interpretive exhibits, dioramas, pictures, murals and a 20-minute film presentation document the history of American railroading 1860-1960. The building's striking thematic design and gleaming exhibits are impressive.
Sacramento Southern Railroad trains transport visitors on a 6-mile sightseeing journey weekends from April through September. Trains depart from the Central Pacific Freight Depot in Old Sacramento, on Front street between J and K streets.
