Old Sacramento Underground Tours depart from the Sacramento History Museum at 101 I St. Sacramento's streets were raised in the 1860s and '70s to guard against flooding. As a result, participants on these 1-hour, partially underground walking tours will see disappearing windows and doors, alleyways and retaining walls. In addition to historic buildings and excavated building foundations, historic photos and items excavated from beneath the buildings are shown. Note: Participants should arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of the tour to pick up their tickets. Wear comfortable walking shoes. The tour includes walking over uneven surfaces and in areas with low ceilings. Photography is not allowed underground. Time: Allow 1 hour, 15 minutes minimum.
$15; $10 (ages 6-17). Reservations are recommended.
Hours: Tours are given daily, Apr.-Dec. During the peak summer season, three tours depart Mon.-Wed.; the first departure is at 11 a.m. Six tours depart Thurs.-Fri.; the first departure is at 11 a.m. Sat. tours depart every half-hour from 10:30-3. Sun. tours depart every half-hour from 10:30-2:30. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
