Balboa Park Visitors Center-House of Hospitality is at 1549 El Prado, in the center of Balboa Park. This Spanish Renaissance-style building was constructed for the 1915-16 Panama-California Exposition. The visitors center offers maps and brochures as well as information about the park's attractions and special events. An excellent way to get an overview of the park and its attractions is via a 1-hour self-guiding audio tour; both an adult and a children’s version are available for purchase. Free guided tours also can be arranged at the center. Schedules for the walking trips, which cover such topics as architecture, history and horticulture, vary. The center sells discount combination tickets for the park attractions. Guided tours are available.
Visitors center free. Audio tour rental $5; $4 (ages 3-11, ages 65+ and military and students with ID). The 1-day Explorer Pass (includes admission to five participating Balboa Park museums) $45; $26 (ages 3-12). The 7-day Explorer Pass (includes admission to 17 participating Balboa Park museums) $55; $29 (ages 3-12). The 7-day Explorer Pass plus 1-day admission to San Diego Zoo $94; $61 (ages 3-12). Annual Explorer Pass (valid for 12 months from date of purchase, includes admission to 17 participating Balboa Park attractions) $129; $99 (ages 65+); $229 (family, two adults and up to four children ages 3-17). Tickets are available at the Balboa Park Visitors Center in the House of Hospitality building or at the museums.
Hours: Visitors center daily 9:30-5, July 1-Labor Day; 9:30-4:30, rest of year. Last audio tour rental is 90 minutes before closing. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
