Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá, 10818 San Diego Mission Rd. in Mission Valley, is reached via Mission Gorge Rd. (off I-8) and Twain Ave. The first of California's missions, it was founded July 16, 1769, by Father Junípero Serra at Presidio Hill and was moved to its present site in 1774. It is referred to as the Mother of the Missions. Taped tours are available at the visitor center. Guided tours are available.
