AAA Editor Notes
Hyde Street Pier Historic Ships, at the foot of Hyde St., displays ships dating from the late 19th century. Visitors can board four ships. The Balclutha is a three-masted, square-rigged sailing vessel containing the immersive-environment exhibit "Cargo Is King!" that traces the ship's three careers through films, panels, and stacks of cargo ship relics and photographs. The C.A. Thayer is a coastal lumber schooner. The Eureka was the largest ferry operating on San Francisco Bay in its time; the Hercules is a steam-powered tugboat. The scow schooner Alma, which offers sailing tours in summer, and the tugboat Eppleton Hall are anchored nearby. Programs and demonstrations are offered.
