Seymour Marine Discovery Center at Long Marine Laboratory is w. off SR 1 (Mission St.) on Swift St., then n. on Delaware Ave. to the end of the road. The center, part of the Joseph M. Long Marine Laboratory, is a research and educational facility of the University of California, Santa Cruz. The lab serves as a base for field research in Monterey Bay and the ocean beyond. Visitors can see an aquarium and a blue whale skeleton, check out the interactive displays in the exhibit hall, and touch sea stars and other marine animals.
$8; $6 (ages 3-16, ages 65+ and students with ID).
Hours: Daily 10-5, July-Aug.; Tues.-Sun. 10-5, rest of year. Guided 45-minute lab tours are given on a first-come, first-served basis at 1, 2 and 3. Family tours are given Tues.-Sun. at 11. Closed Jan. 1, Easter, July 4, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and Dec. 31.
