The Museum of Art and History is at 705 Front St. at jct. Cooper St. (in the McPherson Center). It promotes interest in contemporary art and Santa Cruz County history through traveling exhibits and a collection of artifacts and memorabilia. Historical exhibits trace the area's history from Ohlone Indians and the mission era to the lumber industry and the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Installed in the outdoor sculpture garden are works from the museum's permanent collection. Community events take place on the first and third Friday evenings of the month.
