Crystal Cave (Sequoia) is 14 mi. from Lodgepole Visitor Center and accessible via a narrow, winding road that descends 2,000 feet to the Marble Fork Kaweah River bridge, and then from the parking area proceed down a steep half-mile trail to the cave entrance. Note: Vehicles longer than 22 feet are prohibited on the road to the cave entrance. This is the only one of the more than 275 caves within these national parks that is open to the public. The temperature inside the cave is a constant 50 degrees Fahrenheit, so visitors should bring warm clothing. Note: Persons with pre-existing heart or pulmonary conditions should not attempt this excursion. Strollers, baby backpacks, walking sticks and tripods are prohibited. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Guided tours are available.
Tours $16; $8 (ages 5-12); $5 (ages 0-4).
Hours: Fifty-minute guided tours are given every half-hour Mon.-Fri. 10-4:30, Sat. 10-6, Sun. 10-5:30, early June-Labor Day; Mon.-Fri. at 11, noon, 2 and 3, Sat.-Sun. on the hour 11-4, mid-May to early June and day after Labor Day-late Nov.
