Tulare Historical Museum, 444 W. Tulare Ave., displays artifacts, photographs, dioramas and replicas of rooms and small businesses that reveal the colorful history of the town, from Yokuts Indians to the present. The Military History Wing houses the Heritage Room Art Gallery, the Manuel Toledo Military Collection and memorabilia of Adm. Elmo R. Zumwalt Jr. who graduated from high school here, and of Olympians Bob Mathias, a native son, and Sim Iness. The Tom Hennion Archives Center also is on-site.
$5; $3 (ages 55+); $2 (students with ID); free (ages 0-4 and to all third Sun. of the month). Art gallery free.
Hours: Thurs.-Sat. 10-4 (also third Sun. of the month 12:30-4, Sept.-May). Archive center by appointment. Closed major holidays.
