AAA Editor Notes
The Ruth Bancroft Garden is at 1552 Bancroft Rd. Planted by Ruth Bancroft in 1972, the garden is a model of the use of xerophytes (plants that require little water). Among the more than 2,000 types of water-hoarding succulents and other drought-tolerant plants that can be seen are aloes, agaves, yuccas and echeverias; the plantings showcase their unusual forms and colors.

$10; $8 (ages 65+ and students with ID); free (ages 0-11).
Self-guiding tours Tues.-Sun. 10-4. Docent-led tours are given Fri.-Sun. at 11, Apr.-Oct.; Sat.-Sun at 11, rest of year. The garden may be closed for brief periods in spring and fall; phone ahead to confirm dates. Allow 1 hour minimum.
