Glacier Point is 30 mi. from Yosemite Valley via Wawona Rd. to Chinquapin, then continuing on Glacier Point Rd. to the lookout point. The spectacularly scenic panorama embraces domes, pinnacles, waterfalls and—dominating all—the granite monolith Half Dome. From the stone lookout you can study the detail of the distant High Sierra and its flanking ranges. On the valley floor 3,214 feet below, automobiles appear as moving specks, and the Merced River resembles a silver thread.

The paved road to the point winds through pine and fir forests. In summer, bus tours and hiker shuttles to the point are available and ranger-naturalists are on duty. A 1.5-mile walk from the parking area leads to 8,122-foot Sentinel Dome.
