U.S. Mint is at 320 W. Colfax Ave.; the tour entrance is on Cherokee St. Built 1898-1904, the building reflects its turn-of-the-20th-century grandeur; the Grand Hallway has murals, stained glass chandeliers and marble floors and walls. Guided tours enable participants to see a display of solid gold bars and the presses that produce up to 35 million coins each day.
Note: Tickets for the tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis for that day and are limited to five per person. Adults must show a photo ID. Visitors must arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled tour. Coin production is not guaranteed to occur during tours; No bags allowed including purses, backpacks and fanny packs; small palm-sized wallet is allowed. Weapons—including pocket knives and personal protective devices—are not permitted. Storage for personal items is not available. Check the Mint's website for a complete list of prohibited items. Children ages 0-6 are not allowed.
