AAA Editor Notes
Santiago Cathedral is at calles Hidalgo and Juárez facing Plaza de Armas. Built 1746-1801, it exhibits a mix of architectural styles, most notably the Mexican Churrigueresque. Decorative baroque carvings representing plants and shells adorn its facade and doors. The interior features a gilded altarpiece and a pulpit covered in gold leaf. The 1762 chapel contains a Spanish image of Christ associated with numerous legends. A 200-foot tower dominates the church and offers a panoramic view of the city.
