National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), 1850 Table Mesa Dr., is a National Science Foundation-sponsored scientific research laboratory offering interactive exhibits and informational displays on such topics as weather; climate; Earth's atmosphere; and the Sun. The building, designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei, is nestled against Boulder's Flatiron mountains, overlooking the city in a picturesque setting. An interpretive .4-mile outdoor weather trail, art galleries and a theater showing science-themed videos also are offered. Self-guiding tours using computer tablets are available.
