Downtown Aquarium, at 700 Water St., is an underwater adventure featuring more than 500 species of fascinating sea creatures, including sharks, snakes, otters, sea anemones, birds and Sumatran tigers. The Aquarium Adventure exhibit tells a tale of various ecosystems, including wetlands, oceans, deserts, barrier reefs, beaches, rain forests and mangrove-fringed lagoons.
Scuba and snorkeling programs allow participants to swim with the fish and dive with the sharks. The interactive Stingray Reef touch tank as well as naturalistic sounds and settings complete the experience. The mermaid-themed Under the Sea is an underwater presentation about the environment, and the 4-D Theater shows immersive, 15-minute films that change throughout the year. For an additional fee, educational programs and tours led by marine biologists are available.
