AAA Inspector Notes
This historic property was built by the famous Freelan Oscar Stanley, co-inventor of the Stanley Steamer car and manufacturer of violins. Stephen King stayed at the Stanley after a late season attempt to visit the Rocky Mountain National Park. The mostly empty hotel became the inspiration for King's famous novel 'The Shining.' Not evaluated. Facilities, services, and décor characterize a mid-scale property.

Pros: We were given a free breakfast in there very nice restaurant since the water boilers went out and we had no hot water. There is a lot of history in the hotel, and they do historical tour is as well as ghost tours in the evening. The staff is dressed nice
Cons: We were given a small undersized room apparently. The hotel has old walls and doors that do not insulate noise very well. the hotel is very noisy.

Very Poor

Pros: That is was in the rocky mountains.
Cons: No A/C in august. Phone did not work - thus no room service. Molded towels hidden on top of the hutch. Cigarette burn in the curtains. Generally dirty and dusty. No pool. Not a 4 star hotel and I feel ripped off for paying $---a night for it!
