Hinsdale County Museum, 130 N. Silver St., traces the history of Lake City and Hinsdale County. Exhibits focus on the cultural development of Lake City, including the Civilian Conservation Corps projects of the 1930s and the transition of the local economy from mining to tourism in the 1940s. Displays include medical equipment, an 1878 hook and ladder truck, old-fashioned gardens utilizing vintage plants, a restored Denver & Rio Grande caboose and a small home depicting late 19th-century family life. Exhibits in the Transportation Building include early transportation memorabilia and a blacksmith shop. In summer, cemetery and ghost tours and tours of historic home interiors are offered.
