White River Museum, 2 blks. n. of SR 13 at 565 Park Ave., occupies the original 1880 log U.S. Army officers’ quarters used by the soldiers who came to assist troops pinned down at Milk Creek Battlefield who were helping Bureau of Indian Affairs agent Nathan Meeker, killed in an 1879 Native American uprising. Artifacts, pictures and records document the rich Ute and pioneer history of the White River area.
