AAA Editor Notes
The Prudence Crandall Museum is on the Canterbury Green at SRs 14 and 169 (1 S. Canterbury Rd.). The museum occupies the 1805 house in which Prudence Crandall conducted an academy for young African-American women 1833-34. An elaborate entrance doorway and a second-floor Palladian window are among the house's Federal-style architectural features. Permanent and changing exhibits chronicle the lives and legacies of Crandall and her African-American students, as well as themes of women's and local history.
