Roaring Brook Nature Center is 1.5 mi. n.e. of US 44; n. on Lawton Rd. from jct. US 44 and SR 177, following signs to 70 Gracey Rd. The center offers 5 miles of self-guiding trails and 115 acres of woodland. On the premises are a native plant butterfly garden and a trail traversing a vernal pool habitat; vernal pools, dry for at least part of the year and usually devoid of fish, are desirable habitats for native amphibians and insects.
The interpretive building houses both permanent and seasonal exhibits, including a small animal collection and a replica of an eastern woodland Native American longhouse. Educational programs pertain to the natural history of North America. Folk concerts are offered seasonally in spring, fall and winter.
