Stanley-Whitman House, 37 High St., is a museum of early American history. This well-preserved example of New England framed architecture features an overhanging second story with pendant drops. Capt. John Stanley built the saltbox house in 1720. Architectural details include a central chimney, diamond-paned sash windows and period furnishings.

The home is surrounded by period gardens, an apple orchard and stone walls. The property also includes an exhibit gallery showcasing the work of local artists, a research library and the Farmington Visitor Center.
