Charter Oak Cultural Center is at 21 Charter Oak Ave. (between Main and Prospect sts.). A variety of performances, lectures and workshops take place in what was once the state's first synagogue, built in 1876. Three small galleries present rotating exhibits of paintings, sculptures, photography and collage art by local artists.
Gallery Mon.-Fri. 9:30-5. Closed major holidays and the week between Christmas and Jan. 1. Phone ahead to confirm schedule, since the gallery may be closed in between exhibit installations. Allow 30 minutes minimum.
