Built as a replica of a sea captain's home, this restaurant is a nice spot for those visiting Mystic Seaport. Pale gray walls, crisp white chandeliers and black-and-white framed sailboat pictures add to the modern nautical ambience. Large windows overlook the outside garden and tented al fresco dining by the river is available during the summer months. The New England clam chowder is made from scratch with local clams. Servers are attentive and knowledgeable. The menu changes with the seasons, but a sample variety of dishes that may be available include seared yellowfin tuna, oysters on the half shell and braised short ribs with portobello mushroom ragout and roasted fingerling potatoes in a red wine reduction. For dessert, the caramel apple cheesecake and red velvet tiramisu with mixed berry gelato are popular when offered.
