AAA Inspector Notes
Historic. Ever wonder where the hamburger was first invented? Many say it was here at this spot back in 1900, when a rushed customer walked into the restaurant and asked the owner for something he could take with him to eat on the run. What Louis created that day still is being served the same way by his great grandson. Burgers are handmade, fresh daily and cooked to order in the original cast iron grills that date back to 1898. They are then finished on toasted white bread slices with cheese, tomato and grilled onions—that is all and there are signs that warn guests to not ask for any other condiments including the k-word (ketchup). Louis' believes these types of condiments ruin the flavor. Happy customers don't seem to mind, as this place always is packed with professionals, families and late night college students looking for a great burger and a bit of history.
