The U.S. Coast Guard Museum is just off I-95 at 15 Mohegan Ave. (SR 32) at The U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The museum, located in Waesche Hall on the west bank of the Thames River, has exhibits of medals, uniforms, paintings and ship models highlighting the Coast Guard's 200-year history. Also on display are a few figureheads and the only known first-order Fresnel lens in the country. When in port, the training boat Eagle can be boarded at the State Pier.

Hours: Mon.-Fri. 9-4, Sat. 10-4, Sun. 1-4, Sept.-May; Mon.-Fri. 9-4, first and third Sat. of the month 10-4, rest of year. Eagle tours, when in port, are given daily 1-5. Closed major holidays. Allow 30 minutes minimum.
