AAA Editor Notes
Phelps-Hatheway House & Garden is at 55 S. Main St. (SR 75). The home reflects two 18th-century architectural styles. The original portion of the 1761 house is a typical Colonial house, while the north wing, added in 1794, is one of the first examples of the neoclassical style in the Connecticut Valley. The house contains one of the few known signed and dated rooms; on its walls are four French hand-blocked wallpapers of the 1790s.
