Bowie Railroad Museum & Old Town Welcome Center is off US 50 exit 11, 3.1 mi. n. on SR 197, .8 mi. w. on 11th St., then just n. to 8614 Chestnut Ave. The railroad station was named for Oden Bowie, president of the Baltimore & Potomac Railroad Co. and eventual governor of Maryland, who played a major role in bringing the railroad to southern Maryland in 1872.

The museum chronicles the history of the railroad and its influence on the town. The site has two small buildings, a caboose, local area visitor information and a children's activity center.
