Fort Delaware State Park is on Pea Patch Island. The park is accessible only by a ferry that departs from 45 Clinton St. The 288-acre park features an 1859 fort, costumed interpreters portraying 19th-century island soldiers and residents, nature trails and an observation tower that provides views of nesting spots for egrets, herons and other wading birds.
Private boats are not permitted in the park. Picnic tables and grills are available.
Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.

Hours: Wed.-Sun. and holidays 9:30-6, mid-June through Labor Day; Sat. 9:30-6 in May. Ferries depart at 10, 11, 11:30, noon, 1, 1:30, 2 and 3 (also at 3:30, 4 and 5 on Sat., Sun. and holidays). Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
