AAA Editor Notes
Arts and Industries Building is next to the Smithsonian Institution Building (the Castle) at 900 Jefferson Dr. S.W. The second-oldest Smithsonian building was originally known as the U.S. National Museum and exhibited items acquired from the 1876 Centennial Exhibition held in Philadelphia. It was completed in 1881, just in time for President James A. Garfield's inaugural ball. Its red-brick exterior, arched windows, colorful accents and spires all offer a nice contrast to the Castle's more somber Gothic style.

Note: The Arts and Industries Building is closed to the public and is open only occasionally for receptions and other special events.
