Department of State is at 2201 C St. N.W. Part of the Executive Branch of the federal government, the agency is responsible for formulating and implementing U.S. foreign policy. Guided 45-minute tours allow the public to see the diplomatic reception rooms on the eighth floor. The Secretary of State, Vice President and Cabinet members entertain visiting dignitaries in these lavishly appointed rooms, which contain 18th and early 19th-century furnishings. Note: A photo ID is required. No strollers, backpacks or packages are permitted, and storage facilities are not available. Tours are not recommended for ages 0-11. Reservations are required and should be made at least 90 days in advance.
