AAA Editor Notes
Eastern Market is on Capitol Hill at 7th St. and North Carolina Ave. S.E. (M: Eastern Market). This D.C. institution first opened its doors in 1873. The high-ceilinged interior bustles with shoppers. Merchants sell meat, seafood, produce, cheeses, baked goods and flowers. On weekends additional vendors set up shop outside under rows of tents, offering paintings, jewelry, clothing and whimsical crafts like “canimals,” animal figures made entirely from soda and tin cans.

The Flea Market at Eastern Market sets up just southeast of the market building; the eclectic display of wares ranges from vintage posters and antique brass doorknobs to beautiful Turkish lamps decorated with mosaic tiles.
