AAA Editor Notes
United States Navy Memorial is at 701 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W. between 7th and 9th sts. N.W. The base is a ground-level granite map of the world 100 feet in diameter, illustrating the enormity of Earth's ocean surface compared to land areas. Surrounded by fountains, pools, flag masts and 26 bronze relief sculptures depicting naval history, the map serves as an amphitheater for free outdoor summer concerts as well as traditional Navy ceremonies.
