Chapultepec Park Zoo (Parque Zoológico de Chapultepec) is in the eastern section, s. of Paseo de la Reforma off Calzada Chivatito (near the National Museum of Anthropology). It displays giant pandas—this is one of the few zoos to have successfully bred them in captivity—a white tiger, rhinos, monkeys, black swans, penguins, tarantulas and other animals, most of them residing in natural habitats. There's also an aviary, reptile and butterfly exhibits and a miniature train ride. It can get quite crowded, especially on weekends; try and go early in the morning. Food is available.
Zoo free. There are nominal fees to view the reptile and butterfly exhibits.
Hours: Tues.-Sun. 9-4:30. Closed Jan. 1 and Christmas.
