AAA Inspector Notes
Magnificently restored, this hotel is a great base for exploring the Historic Center. Rooms vary in size from very cozy and quiet interior rooms to two-room suites facing noisy Calle 5 de Febrero. All are equipped with modern conveniences, but due to the building's historic nature there's a wide range of configurations. The location is within walking distance of many downtown attractions, including the Zocalo, Alameda Park, the National Pawn Shop, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Palace of Fine Arts and more. The hotel's seafood restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced. Meets AAA guest room security requirements. 107 units. 6 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).

Poor

Pros: I liked that it was close to El Zocalo and to the Metro Station.
Cons: I was accussed of having more guests in my room and was being charged $15 extra per person. Which according to the hotel, "someone" reported 2 more adults checking into my room one morning. Every breakfast included pork.

Very Good

Other rooms have outside window view to be able to view if it is day or night and the weather. In some of these the background noise from lobby may still be heard since their doors open on to the same open atrium walkways. on the 5th and 6th floors their are rooms opening to hallways that are not exposed to the atrium background noise. Nice partly covered rooftop terrace (but with no food or drink service) but its high enclosure walls block view of area. Breakfast was good and varied somewhat each day with some Mexican food and Mexican coffee mixed in for interest. This is an old nicely renovated building but that comes with limitations. Two attached restaurants are middle of the road reasonably priced with good service and varied menu to satisfy anyone. Lots of other good restaurants are within easy walking distance. Never felt unsafe in the area. There was a significant auxiliary police presence in every block around the clock in the old city area but some of this related to expected teacher protests (over government requirements for improved qualifications, hiring processes and lesson planning.....normal requirements in other parts of the world). Protest march did occur one day and police blocked off vehicles from some of the area so had to walk around....but it was still safe.
Pros: convenient location near old city main city square and various points of interest. Reasonable price. Very friendly customer service attitude in all staff. Concierge was excellent (and beyond that) in helping make arrangements and providing advice
Cons: the room was small (but OK for two) and internal with a window opening into the closed in atrium which sounded good but it looked onto the access hall for all rooms so needed to keep drapes closed also some noise from atrium 6:00 AM breakfast and check in
