AAA Editor Notes
Cuicuilco Pyramid is near the intersection of Av. Insurgentes Sur (Mex. 85) and the Anillo Periférico, close to Olympic Village. The city of Cuicuilco was a major urban center, believed to have developed as early as 700 B.C. It eventually had a population estimated to be 20,000, but was abandoned around the end of the fourth century after several eruptions by the volcano Xitle.

Today the site consists of a round platform, discovered in the early 1920s, and a ramp that once led to an altar at the temple's summit. The original structure was some 370 feet in diameter and 59 feet high; it was enlarged several times over the centuries. A small museum at the site has geologic exhibits and displays objects found during the excavations.
