Dade Battlefield Historic State Park, off I-75 exit 314, e. on CR 48, 1.5 mi. s. on US 301, then 1 mi. w. to 7200 CR 603, commemorates the massacre of Maj. Francis L. Dade and his troops, who were ambushed by Seminole Indians the morning of Dec. 28, 1835; the incident helped spark the Second Seminole War. Highlights include reproductions of the log barricade used in the battle and monuments honoring Dade and his men. A visitor center has exhibits and artifacts, and an interpretive trail marks the military road and battlefield. Some of the site has been returned to the natural habitat that would have existed in the 19th century.
