Edison & Ford Winter Estates, 1 mi. s.w. on SR 867 at 2350 McGregor Blvd., includes historic buildings and the adjacent winter homes, gardens and a laboratory of early 20th-century industrialists and entrepreneurs Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Museum galleries containing inventions and artifacts pertaining to Edison's life as well as the caretaker's house also are on-site. A highlight is a banyan tree said to be one of the largest in the continental United States. Guided and narrated audio tours in English, Spanish, French and German are available. The inventor's tour offers hands-on activities geared toward children. Garden tours and cruise-and-tour packages also are available. Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.
Guided tour $25; $15 (ages 6-12). Self-guiding audio tour $20; $11 (ages 6-12). Behind-the-scenes tour $50; $20 (ages 6-12). Garden tour $30; $16 (ages 6-12).
