Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is 4 mi. w. off I-75 exit 131 on Daniels Pkwy., then 1.8 mi. n. on Ben Pratt-Six Mile Cypress Pkwy. While walking along a mile-long boardwalk trail visitors can explore the wetland and may observe such inhabitants as turtles, wading birds, otters and alligators. An interpretive center features exhibits. Educational programs are offered. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Free. Tours are limited to 10 persons per tour guide on a first-come, first-served basis; arrive 30 minutes before tour departure. Parking: $1 an hour (maximum of $5 a day).
Hours: Daily dawn-dusk. Tours are given daily at 9:30 and 1:30, Jan.-Mar.; daily at 9:30 in Apr. and Nov.-Dec.; Wed. at 9:30, rest of year. Interpretive center open Tues.-Sun. 10-4; closed major holidays.
