Florida Museum of Natural History is at 3215 Hull Rd. in Powell Hall at the University of Florida Cultural Plaza. The Butterfly Rainforest features waterfalls, lush tropical foliage and hundreds of free-flying butterflies. Museum exhibits include a full-scale North Florida limestone cave replica and mammoth and mastodon skeletons standing more than 12 feet tall. Visitors may also experience a Calusa Indian welcoming ceremony. The Florida Fossils exhibit traces 65 million years of state history. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Donations. An admission may be charged during special exhibits. Butterfly Rainforest $13; $11 (ages 62+ and FL students with ID); $6 (ages 3-17). Parking: Mon.-Fri. $4 (cash only); Sat.-Sun. and state holidays free.
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. noon-5. Last admission to Butterfly Rainforest and temporary exhibits is 30 minutes before closing. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.
