John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, on US 1 at mile marker 102.6, combines a land area with 178 nautical square miles of protected ocean waters. Features include a living coral reef, the underwater bronze statue “Christ of the Deep,” two beaches, a boardwalk through a mangrove area and a visitor center with a 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium. Snorkel, scuba and glass-bottom boat tours are offered. Snorkeling tours to view “Christ of the Deep” are ocean and weather permitting only; the area is too shallow for glass-bottom boat tours. Boat, kayak, canoe and snorkeling charter boat rentals also are available.

Guided tours are available. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.

$8 (per vehicle with two to eight people); $4 (per single-person vehicle); $2 (per person arriving by bicycle or on foot). An additional 50c county surcharge applies per person. Glass-bottom boat tour $24; $17 (ages 4-11). Snorkeling (2.5-hour tour) $29.95; $24.95 (ages 0-17). Snorkeling (4.5-hour tour) $38.95 (per person). Scuba tour $75. Reservations are recommended.
Park open daily 8-dusk. Visitor center open 8-5. A 2.5-hour glass-bottom boat tour departs at 9:15, 12:15 and 3:15. Snorkel tours depart at 9, 10:30, noon, 1:45 and 3. Scuba tours depart at 9 and 1:30. Tours require a minimum number of people; phone ahead to confirm policy.
