Maitland Art Center is 1.5 mi. e. of I-4 exit 90A on SR 414 (Maitland Blvd.), .7 mi. s. on CR 427 (Maitland Ave.), then .2 mi. w. to 231 W. Packwood Ave. A rare example of “fantasy” architecture, the complex has more than 300 unique ornamental features such as murals, bas-reliefs and carvings in Aztec and Mayan styles. Walkways wind through courtyards and gardens at the center, which was founded as an artist's colony in 1937. Changing exhibits showcase local, regional and national artists and craftspersons.
