Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters, 11710 Overseas Hwy., is a learning and conservation center offering hands-on exhibits, displays of marine life and educational programming. The main aquarium viewing area highlights the residents of the inter-connected coral reef and shark tanks. Also on-site is the Tide Pool Touch Tank, which houses shallow water species like starfish, and Stingray Cove, where visitors can touch stingrays. Behind-the-scenes programs, some of which include snorkeling, allow for more in-depth interaction with stingrays, nurse sharks and other marine animals. Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 45 minutes minimum.
$20; $15 (ages 4-12). Behind-the-scenes programs additional $15-$130. Reservations are recommended for behind-the-scenes programs.
