Gold Coast Railroad Museum is at 12450 S.W. 152nd St. (Coral Reef Dr.), at the entrance to Zoo Miami. Featured exhibits include passenger cars, locomotives, freight cars, cranes and cabooses. One exhibit describes the contributions of Pullman porters. A tour of the Silver Crescent offers a view of how train travel used to be. The Ferdinand Magellan, the Pullman car built for President Franklin Roosevelt, is on the premises. A model railroad display in a separate building includes play tables for children. The museum is on the site of a former World War II blimp airship base; an exhibit details base history. Special events are offered. Most train rides are offered on weekends. Rides on a restored narrow gauge train also are offered (weather permitting). Picnicking is permitted.
Museum $8; $6 (ages 2-12); free (first Sat. of the month except during events.). Ferdinand Magellan tour $3; $5 during events. Train rides $6-$12 (ages 2+). Narrow gauge train ride $3 (per person).

Ferdinand Magellan tour is given Mon.-Fri. at 11 and 2, Sat.-Sun. on the hour noon-2, and by appointment. Train rides Sat.-Sun. 11:30-3:30 except during events; narrow gauge train rides Sat.-Sun. noon-3 except during events. The museum is closed late Feb. to mid-March when Day Out with Thomas is held and mid-Nov. and select days in Dec. when The Polar Express rides are offered. Phone ahead to confirm event schedule. Closed Jan. 1 and Christmas. Allow 1 hour minimum.
