Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, 1 mi. n. on US 441, encompasses 21,000 acres of freshwater marsh, hammocks, pine flatwoods, swamps and ponds. More than 30 miles of trails are available, including the 16-mile Gainesville to Hawthorne State Trail. Visitor center exhibits interpret the natural and cultural history of this important ecological area. A 50-foot observation tower stands near the center of the preserve and a recreation area is at Lake Wauberg. Pets on leash are allowed only in designated areas.

Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
