Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, 375 Sanctuary Rd., is a 13,000-acre wilderness area and wildlife sanctuary of the National Audubon Society, with nearly 200 bird species in temporary or permanent residence. The sanctuary contains the largest known stand of virgin bald cypress, some more than 500 years old. Alligators, otters and white-tailed deer may be seen from the 2.25-mile boardwalk. Guided walks and educational programs are offered seasonally.
